Services
Clinical services
Therapists operate within a “pod” clinical structure. This pod format allows patients an opportunity to meet with their primary therapist more than once each day. Due to our affiliation with the Heart of America Psychology Training Consortium and the University of Missouri, patients have access to psychologists and psychiatrists on a daily basis. Patients receive face-to-face therapeutic processes to facilitate their care, treatment and services.
Children’s services
Our children’s program provides services for young patients up to age 12. Under the direction of a child and adolescent psychiatrist, treatment teams use different therapeutic approaches to help children overcome emotional and behavioral problems. We provide educational programs, such as Stop and Think, that are individually designed to meet a level the child can achieve. Family involvement in the treatment process is encouraged, when possible.
Adolescent services
Developed for patients 13-18 years old experiencing behavioral and emotional problems (sometimes complicated by alcohol and drug use), our adolescent program is headed by a team of professionals working closely with families, schools and referring professionals to develop treatment plans specific to the issues of each teen. Education therapy is provided 52 weeks per year, allowing patients to follow required academic curricula and maintain contact with their school. In response to nationwide reports, a Bullying Prevention and Awareness program was added to our adolescent services in 2010.
Adult psychiatric services
Our adult psychiatric programs are designed to treat individuals suffering from psychiatric disorders, such as anxiety/depressive illness, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, phobias and personality disorders. Our treatment focuses on dysfunctional behaviors and emotional problems that may result from serious depression, sexual abuse, self-mutilation or suicidal behavior, purging or binge eating starvation, and anger. Led by a psychiatrist, our treatment teams use a multidisciplinary approach, including cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, expressive and family therapy modalities. When appropriate, medications are used in conjunction with other therapy.
Detox services
As a dual-diagnosis program we provide short-term detox services. The admitting psychiatrist may require that a potential patient be cleared as medically stable by a physician before being admitted. Although medications may be prescribed to help with the symptoms of detox, drugs like Methadone, Suboxone, etc., are not utilized. Completion of an acute-care stay for detox purposes at Royal Oaks usually warrants further treatment at a longer-term drug and alcohol facility. Our case managers can assist patients with locating a program that best fits their needs in addition to coordinating the transition to the next level of care.
